Mission Statement

Peyman Bamdad (the Dawn Compact) is a think tank devoted to serving as a platform for Iranian activists, former political prisoners and experts inside and outside of Iran in their quest to overthrow the Islamic Republic and establish a secular popular democratic republic emphasizing social justice, gender equality, and ecological restoration. The founders of this group stress that the main struggle is in Iran and leadership must always come from those living inside the country who understand its complexities and difficult daily realities. At the same time, allies outside the country must make use of their relative security to do what cannot be done inside the country for the generations-long quest of the Iranian people to control their own destinies and live lives of dignity and freedom to prevail. To encourage this strategic symbiosis of forces, Peyman Bamdad’s goals include:

  • Bolstering the capacities of opposition forces inside Iran;
  • Acting outside Iran to ensure that those connected to the current oppressive regime do not enjoy impunity for their crimes against the Iranian people or their historically-unparalleled corruption;
  • Developing and maintaining safe and trustworthy platforms for discussion, debate, anonymous polling, and coordination between different political forces inside and outside of Iran;
  • Connecting volunteers, activists, experts, and academics;
  • Provides secure internet access for activists inside Iran;
  • Creating a detailed and evidence-based assessment of the crises that face Iran and a rigorous vision for how to address these crises;
  • Uniting disparate groups along an axis of shared interests and a common, substantive policy program;
  • Supporting Iranian activists and asylum seekers with claims relevant to the group’s mission so that they can continue their activism and not be neutralized during the arduous asylum and resettlement process;
  • Tailoring an independent multilingual media entity focused on the Iranian audience that:
    • Publicizes and advocates for the substantive assessments and policy solutions set forth by the think tank;
    • Neutralizes existing political controversies that divide the opposition and divert the Iranian public’s focus;
    • Gives a megaphone to dissidents inside the country rather than preaching to them from abroad.
